In the state of India, rescuers have been able to free 41 workers who were trapped in the Silkyara tunnel, which had collapsed in Uttarakhand for 17 days. The workers were taken to the hospital and thankfully, no one was injured. Indian President Droupadi Murmu responded on X Corp that she was “relieved and happy” to hear that the workers have been freed and praised the rescue effort, which she believed brought out “a testament of human endurance.” Family, friends and local residents gathered around the tunnel to greet the workers who were rescued. They were given wild cheering, flower garlands, firecrackers and sweets. The Silkyara tunnel is part of the Char Dham project, which connects key Hindu pilgrim sites to the Himalayas, which is 890 km long and costs $1.5 billion.

It sounds very wonderful to me that miners and rescuers were able to rescue all the workers safely and that none of them were injured. I am surprised to hear they were able to survive the past 17 days in the tunnel with enough oxygen, food and water through a separate pipe. Getting out of the tunnel must have been a really happy thing for everyone to see. Hopefully, this will teach people who are currently working on something to be more careful in the future as a lot of unexpected things can happen when working on a project where climate can affect the area like landslides. Maybe, this will also remind people to be more careful about the kind of environment they are in.
