Border guards in India were able to take down at least 13 drones that were carrying “illicit drugs” across the border crossing with Pakistan. Two villages in the Punjab region were put on high alert as soon as the intrusions had occurred. An official from the Border Security Forces has reported that there have been drone crossings in the rural districts of Tarn Taran and Amritsar, which borders the country of Pakistan. Incidents with drones carrying drugs from Pakistan being shot down were first reported in 2019. As of 2023, there have been 64 reports of Pakistani drones being shot down. On the 15th of November, two drug smugglers who suspected of receiving drugs from drones were arrested by police in the Amritsar district and have been brought into questioning.

I find this article to be very interesting as it is talking about India defending its people and its border from drugs being brought into the country from the bordering nation of Pakistan. It feels very saddening what struggles the citizens of the Punjab region have to go through. But, it must also feel satisfying that India is trying to reduce the risk of drug addiction to its people. I hope that India will be able to stop any more smuggling operations on the border with Pakistan, because these citizens have the right to feel safe in their community. They also have the right to defend themselves from anything they might see as a threat to their safety and peace.

In International Relations, we have talked about international issues like war and violence. Pakistan and India have had a long history of conflict with each other. We have also discussed issues like human rights violations. The smuggling of arms, ammunition and narcotics across the border between India and Pakistan has brought some problems concerning the safety of the citizens of India as they may put their lives in danger. We have also talked about the Realist theory and the Security Dilemma. The countries of India and Pakistan have taken extreme measures to ensure their own security and threaten each other’s security.
