It was surprising to see that president Zuma of South Africa didn’t have any consequences from the no-confidence vote held against him earlier, as he seems to be wildly unpopular in South Africa, due to the many corruption charges and other scandals implicating him. His recent activities have sparked many protests against him, and many members of even his own party, the African National Congress, have criticized him. It seems that South Africa is quickly heading towards turmoil.

In addition, the government of South Sudan has given permission for the UN to deploy another peacekeeping force to the nation, after fighting rocked its capital. While the force present in South Sudan now has had some good effects for the country, it has been plagued with reports of poor leadership on the part of the Peacekeepers, and failing to act when ethnic cleansing was being carried out under their watch. While the current UN forces in South Sudan have not been totally effective, a full-scale civil war has not erupted, as many in the international community had feared would occur with the intensified fighting. The new peacekeepers should bolster the forces present now and help to calm tensions in the fledgling country.
