Analysis: UN calls for probe into Burundi government for crimes against humanity

I believe it is very tragic what is currently going on in Burundi, (a small country south of Rwanda) and how flawed the justice system and government is. President Pierre Nkurunziza ran for a third term of office, something that was unconstitutional, and won. This started many protests and as many as 2000 people were killed because of it and over 400,000 people have fled the country. I think it is horrible how many people are being killed and tortured because they tried to exercise their opinions. Something we take for granted sometimes in the U.S. The Government has done nothing to bring these perpetrators to justice, many of them being police and armed forces of the government it self. I believe that the international criminal court should open a case against Burundi’s government for crimes against humanity. This seems to be the only way to put these crimes to a stop, however Burundi is trying to withdraw from the Rome Statue which would take away the international courts jurisdiction. I very much hope that a case can be opened before they withdraw and that this violence can be put to and end.
