ANALYSIS: Nigeria: Road Construction – Stakeholders Brainstorm On Economics of Innovative Solutions

The road infrastructure in Nigeria is rather poor and is currently being upgraded. The GDP in that sector was negative in Q2 2015 and finally turned positive Q1 2017 and continued to grow in Q2 as well. The country believes that roads are a key thing to have upgraded and I personally agree. I think a well designed road system is important because roads are needed to transport many goods and can help boost the economy. While reading an article about Kenya’s capital Nairobi they also mentioned that their road system is rather bad and I can only assume it is probably the same all over Sub-Saharan Africa. If you look at major countries today they all have rather good road ways and if you go back even further Rome was the biggest empire at one point and they had amazing road ways. If Nigeria continues making roadways it is providing jobs (through the construction) for its people and also providing a better way of transportation for goods and services. As shown in the picture you can see how bad the roads are in Nigeria. Even a small amount of rain would result in mud and create an unsafe driving environment for the people. If Nigeria wants to continue to grow the road ways must be upgraded.
