Most of the time, there is not much going on in sub-Saharan Africa, but there is a little bit going on right now. In the country of Ghana, there seems to be a lot of corruption in the government, and Ghana is losing to the corruption.  Corruption is a wicked problem that permeates every fabric of Ghanaian society, especially the public sector. Over the years, Ghana has fared dismally in its fight against corruption. This is important because the country risks reversing the gains made over the years in democracy, good governance, and development. Also in Ethiopia, the ruling coalition announced it would release political prisoners and close the infamous Maekelawi detention center in the capital, Addis Ababa. While the government did not say how and when this would occur, doing so would be an important step toward ending longstanding political repression and human rights abuse in the country. In Central African Republic, The United Nations Security Council on Wednesday extended the mandate of the Organization’s peacekeeping mission in the Central African Republic, until 15 November 2018. The increase in the number of the Mission’s ‘blue helmets’ comes against the backdrop of increasing fighting in the African nation and the resulting added insecurity and misery of its civilian population.
