Analysis on “Niger has the world’s highest birth rate – and that may be a recipe for unrest”

This article discusses how fertility has declined everywhere in the world except for the fact that Niger’s is growing and it is the fastest growing birth rate in the world. In Niger, the average woman has 7.2 and the annual growth rate of the country is currently at 3.8%. This article discusses how larger and more youthful population normally can lead to social unrest, but in theory it should also help to drive the economy. Due to Niger’s population consisting of younger people, the government is finding it difficult to provide health care, an education, and most importantly jobs to the younger people. If the government had the ability to provide these things then the younger population would help drive the economy up.

I believe the rising population rate is not a good thing for the country of Niger. If the government can’t provide the critical things to help their population succeed then they are just increasing the poverty and unemployment rates. However, if the Nigerian government could find a way to provide the certain resources then their population could thrive and drive the economy up.
