Policy Statement
Committee: Disarmament and International Security Council
Issue of: Combating Space Warfare
Submitted by: The Kingdom of Spain

From the end of the Cold War, the new focus has moved from spaceships to salites. There has not been a war in space so far this year. There have been a number of treaties blocking the use of space warfare and nuclear weapons. Space exploration and usage of technology in space is inevitable in the future. Without technology in space, the average person’s life would be much more complicated. With both civilian and military satellites, the Kingdom of Spain recognizes the importance of them however, we believe that military use of space technology must be monitored and restricted only to what is allowed by international law. With Spain being apart of NATO, they heavily support the United States and their decisions on space warfare. In 2017, the delegation sent their first radar satellite into space.  The Kingdom of Spain has signed the Outer Space Treaty and has since obliged to the agreement. With both civilian and military satellites, the Kingdom of Spain recognizes the importance of them however, we believe that military use of space technology must be monitored and restricted only to what is allowed by international law.

Policy Statement
Committee: Disarmament and International Security Council
Issue of: The question of Conscription
Submitted by: The Kingdom of Spain

Conscription is also referred to as the draft. It is recruiting members of a country to fight for them in their armed forces. As of 2001, the delegation has rid the government of conscription. At that time the delegation had 135,000 troops. Today the delegation of the Kingdom of Spain has 124,100 personel. They are contemporary with this dematic decrease because from the help of the European Union and other forms of help like NATO. The Kingdom of Spain has it eliminated  conscription from our government after 230 years. Currently military service is optional in the Kingdom of Spain as we believe in the freedom of choice and think there is no need for the amount of trained men as there once was. The Kingdom of Spain believes that conscription is not an issue and that every country should have the option to decide whether military service should be mandatory or not for themselves.
Military success mostly depends on the capabilities of the men and women who serve. This is one of the main reasons for conscription. In the past military service was mandatory and in the nearer past it was only avoidable for people who were incapable or decided for civil service.

Policy Statement
Committee: Disarmament and International Security Council
Issue of: Government Surveillance
Submitted by: The Kingdom of Spain

Unlike in the past, criminal activity is no longer being planned in person with many people at one place. In the present this is mostly done online in chat rooms. It is for this reason that Kingdom of Spain believes that surveillance should not be done just in the public and with cameras on streets and other public places, but also online.
We believe that in order to keep security at a high level surveillance is necessary. This is the reason why the Kingdom of Spain law allows the government to install malverous software into people’s devices in order to track potential risks.
The delegation of the Kingdom of Spain views government surveillance as something that is necessary in certain circumstances. Not only has the delegation of the Kingdom of Spain fallen victim to attacks of espionage on themselves but we still do deem this ability necessary.
Kingdom of Spain believes that surveillance and gathering information isn’t a problem for the public, but what is important is the storage and safety of those information and making sure that they are not misused.
