In the Democratic Republic of the Congo there has been a recent ebola outbreak. This outbreak is the second largest one in the Congo’s history, with 1,206 people being infected, and 764 of those being killed due to this disease. According to BBC, efforts to contain and help those infected have been slowed due to conflict and rebel attacks. Apparently, the World Health Organization has only received half of the money required to stop this outbreak. The WHO has stated that there have been an increasing number of security incidents, and the possibility of the disease spreading to other countries is now fairly high. I find it insane that ebola may possibly become another widespread issue like it was five years ago. The fact that this ebola outbreak is in such an underdeveloped country like the Congo makes matters worse, as it really hampers the Congo’s ability to become more politically or economically stable. It also makes it much easier for the disease to spread. Also in the Democratic Republic of the Congo, a man took a picture of himself with two gorillas posing in the background. This picture has gained global popularity. The ranger apparently saved the gorillas as babies from poachers which are a major issue within the Congo.

In Uganda a U.S. tourist and her tour guide were kidnapped by four kidnappers at gunpoint. According to Uganda police, the kidnappers held used one of their phones to demand a $500,000 ransom. Ugandan military, wildlife, and special police protection force worked to rescue the tourist and guide. They were finally freed after the ransom was paid to the captors. It is terrible that the kidnappers were able to actually successfully get the ransom and get away. Also, despite Trump’s encouragement for Uganda to find the captors, it is unlikely it will actually happen.
