I read an article about a runner in South Africa. Professional runner, Caster Semenya, ran the 5,000 meter today on April 25, 2019. She is extremely fast women who is representing South Africa. There has been a lot of controversy over her as a runner. I’ve followed her for the past couple of years and saw this article pop up and thought it was interesting. She is female on the exterior of her body but has high levels of testosterone and male parts on the inside. She was born with this rare condition, with no gender changing surgeries or anything. She is able to compete with the fasted women in the world without barely breaking a sweat and willing by a couple of seconds. She is absolutely incredible. A few years ago the International Association of Athletics Federations and the Court of Arbitration for Sport decided to have a certain level of testerone that women were allowed to have and still be viable to compete in women’s races. With Caster Semenya’s testosterone levels being higher than the average women, she’s struggles to keep them low. She has to have them under the limit for a consecutive six months prior to any of her races. If she fails to complete this, her times will be invalid and if she wins a record in that certain race, it won’t be counted. Having your level of testosterone under a level is supposed to help with any advantages or disadvantages athletes could have. Its crazy how fast and easy racing comes to Caster. She specializes in the 800 and has won countless titles and broke records. She won the 5,000 meter with a 16:05 today which is absolutely insane. Last week she ran a 4:30 in the 1,500 meter and was 9 seconds faster than the next athleat.
