Reflection on Simulation

For the simulation I was a part of the UNHCR, so we were serving as mediators for the most part trying to get a deal done between Budan and Gilbia. I was only there for the second day of the simulation.

Throughout the second day our group’s main focus was to accomplish a short term deal between Budan and Gilbia in order to protect the refugees. The goal of this short term deal was that it would open of the door to get a long term deal done to solve the refugee crisis. In order to accomplish this short term deal we had representatives from our group split up and talk with the separate groups like the Department of State and Malil and The Association for Refugees and Minorities. Even though I did not speak much out loud in front of the entire class, I still played an important role within the simulation. My objective was to get the ARM to agree to a short term deal first before a long term deal so there was a deal in place to help the refugees.

This was one of the goals of our group, the other was to secure donations from the United States and Malil, which we were able to accomplish fairly early on in the simulation. For the simulation as a whole I feel that I did a lot to help our group. Convincing ARM to agree to a short term deal was crucial in the simulation because they were the last vote we needed to agree to a short term deal.
