Simulation Reflection

During the simulation I didn’t speak up much during the moderated caucuses as we had one group member essentially acting as the speaker. Therefore, my role in the simulation was to go to other groups and gather information. During each unmoderated caucus, I would meet with the various groups formed and try to understand their goals and find what they wanted to achieve from the summit. I would then relay this information back to the rest of our group, then deciding the next best course of action to take. I would also talk to other groups, informing them on our ideas and attempting to influence their decisions, as I am quite persuasive. I felt quite prepared in the simulation, having experience in Model UN. This made the process that goes on during the summit very clear and also allowed me to inform my group about the process of the summit as well. In this simulation, we were able to accomplish a solution which was all I wanted to accomplish at the end of it. Often times in Model UN, over the conference no solution would be passed, making it surprising they we were able to come to one during the simulation. I enjoyed the fact that everyone really got into the simulation, which was emphasized by talking about the strategy and gameplan outside of class and during the lunch breaks. During the simulation, I struggled with finding time to talk during the formal discussions, as we had one person who would often immediately respond to any questions asked. One change I recommend making is just reviewing the process of the summit before the simulation actually begins. With this change, the simulation will run much smoother without many questions being raised. During the simulation, I learned how challenging it is to get things accomplished in a diplomatic manner the benefits the entirety of the summit. During the simulation, it took our group an entire extra class day over the typical two days which demonstrates how hard it can be to get various different types of people to agree.
