Simulation Reflection

In the simulation, I did not speak on the podium because I felt that certain members in my group were more capable of doing so. Throughout the meeting I would go around to the other groups and discuss possible solutions to the said issue and then if there were a solution that I think my group would be able to sign off on I would call over one or two members of my group for their opinion.

I felt decently prepared, I do not know much about politics but the simulation was easy to understand and take a side on. I feel that my group and I were able to set out all of our points and what we wanted to accomplish prior to the first meeting so I felt that as a group we were well prepared.

Throughout the simulation, I enjoyed seeing how groups took sides on the matter and what type of solutions people provided. Also, I got to speak with some of my class members that I very rarely talk to so it was good to branch out and try and better my international relations knowledge and skills.

I struggled with understanding some concepts and why certain groups would not agree to certain deals. In addition I’ve never done model UN so I have no skills in those simulations so the formal speaking was difficult for me to understand and initially how to simulation was going to go.

In terms of change, the way that the speakers should talk on the podium should be addressed and I feel that every member of the group should be required to speak on the podium at least once to work on their formal speaking skills in case the go into a profession that requires it.

I learned how hard it is to reach an agreement between countries and these foundations because each individual has different views and everyone wants to see part of their solution in the final product.
