Ethiopia has been in danger for several months now after transitioning to a multi-party democracy. There is an outbreak of attacks and homicides occuring in the Northern region of Tigray. A large number of casualties have been reported in different parts across Tigray. The attacks are posing a humanitarian crisis that could derail the process of Ethiopia become multi=democracy and create instability across the horn of Africa. Prime Minister Abiy Ahmed ordered a military strike against the regions powerful ruling party, the Tigray People’s Liberation Front., causing thousands of Ethiopians to leave the country and travel to the close country Sudan for safety.

Ethiopia’s corruption is being best fueled by their increase in instability which has led to domestic violence such as these attacks that occured. The corrupt acts happening through the country have diminished its national impact, the safety of the civilians, and the structure the country once held. This has caused many protests within the country for reform and peace. Ethiopia has been dealing with corruption inside its country for quite some time and becoming a multi-party democracy seems to be the only way they can fix that corruption. With the attacks continuously delaying this from happening, Ethiopia will just continue to experience instability and people fleeing the country.

Something we talked about in class some time ago what powers and the factors that go into it. Some ways other than capability to have power are three things Ethiopia does not have at the moment, national will, diplomatic skill, and popular support for the government. Another topic was power of ideas, where ideology, patriotism, and rules of behavior were all major contributors to power, three more things Ethiopia is weak in. Ethiopia simply does not have enough power to stop what is going on in their country and change the type of government being run. In order to change what is and has been happening in their country they need to fix the issues within the country and gain power back.
