The government of Liberia is asking for an increase in monetary support from the United States. Liberia is asking for money that will help with Covid relief and to help the economy grow. Liberia is comparing the money that they are asking for to the Marshall Plan after World War II. Liberia was founded in 1822 by Americans. This causes them to have close ties with the United States and it is the reason for them asking for increased financial support.Liberia is also asking for relief like that was given to themselves, Sierra Leone, and Guinea during 2014-2016 in Ebola relief funds.

Since Liberia was founded by Americans it is causing the country to seek to have a special relationship with the United States so that they can prosper. Liberia is one of the poorest countries and Covid has done nothing to help them. Liberia hopes that they can receive aid like the Marshall Plan provided and it will help to jump start their economy. The United States is the closest ally of Liberia and they would like to develop this relationship further. If Liberia can gain more support from the United States they will be able to become more powerful and help with stability in the region.

Liberia is a small poor nation and thus does not have much power. Liberia’s closest ally is the United States. Liberia is located in the Maritime realm where the United States is the dominant power. Since Liberia does not have much power on their own and the United States is their closest ally this causes them to act as a client state for the United States. This relationship between Liberia and the United States has been ongoing since the formation of Liberia by the United States in 1822. This has led the countries to form a special relationship which Liberia hopes to develop further.
