The summary of this article is about how there has been a change of plans in the rollout of vaccine soon as Pfizer vaccines are set to expire on July 2022. This means that any unused doses of Pfizer will have to be destroyed and cannot be used. Until then the health department is trying to increase uptake of the doses and donate spare shots to make these doses of Pfizer not to go unwasted. Around 1/3 of Southern Africa is vaccinated and so far fully vaccinated around 43% of its 40 million adults are vaccinated as they are still trying to make better progress in Southern Africa to help reduce the spread of Covid.

This is important because South Africa has recorded the most coronavirus infections and deaths on the African continent, however there has been some good progress made as immunizations have slowed and the country has ample vaccine stocks of about 25 million doses.12.6-million of South Africa’s Pfizer vaccines are set to expire by July, after which all unused jabs have to be destroyed and more Pfizer jabs are unlikely to be bought.

This relates to what we have been talking about in class that countries help out other countries during the pandemic and crisis in generally, however countries like the US may be upset if countries in southern africa was wasting the Pfizer vaccines when they spending millions on them for it to go wasted. The US donated over 8 million vaccines to Southern Africa and it is not in there national interest to donate and help out area of poverty and with worse sanitation for them to be wasted and unused.
