Cameroon’s military has deployed troops to the shared eastern border with CAR (Central Africa Republic) due to the abduction of 35 people by CAR rebels. On monday troops raided villages where abductees are said to be held captive, on these rescue missions the rebels responded with fire injuring a few of the hostages. The UN peacekeeping mission assigned to CAR known as MINUSCA said rebels are crossing the border to escape the CAR military and increase abductions in hopes of acquiring ransom money.

It is important to note that the increase of these rebel attacks has also increased the displacement of CAR citizens as they are fleeing the country to places such as Cameroon, Chad, the Democratic Republic of Congo, and Nigeria in hopes of safety. Also the former President of CAR was accused in 2020 of supporting the rebel groups, this distrust in leadership along with the attacks will only increase displacement of CAR citizens. Some effects of CAR citizens fleeing is the tanking of the economy, with a large amount of the population leaving, so will a good circulation of money which could negatively impact production of necessary goods and services. Also the asylum seekers will require other countries which they are fleeing to in providing things like possible language classes, healthcare, and housing, and arguably some of the neighboring countries to which they are fleeing may have troubles providing such goods and services.

This article relates to consequences of neighboring or bordering countries having severe conflicts. Specifically in this case, the long history of violence in CAR can be traced back to multiple coups taking place, dictatorial rule, and severe ongoing political instability. Also the Rural areas in Northern CAR have turned into military operations causing increased instability as well.
