According to this article, the United States condemned the worsening violence and called on the M23 rebel group to stop and withdraw from current positions. They requested this due to the increase in violence in the area. Many have been forced to flee and the rebel group is gaining more control. Following that request, the United States also called on Rwanda to withdraw all military personnel from Democratic Republic of Congo. Rwanda did not appreciate or follow the United States request. They believed that Rwanda deserves the right to defend itself against the DRC who is threatening their security. South Africa is also trying to interfere with the rebel groups control so they stated they were going to send 2,900 soldiers to help.

This article is very eye opening. The amount of damage rebel groups and terrorist groups are causing around the world is outrageous. As an example, a group in Nigeria just kidnapped over 200 school kids. They must be stopped. The United States is doing a good job considering they don’t really need to be there. It is not the United States land or their issue but they are still willing to help which is very admirable. Rwanda on the other hand, needs to step down. The desire for defense is understandable but if they step down and listen to the United States then the rebel group might as well. If that doesn’t work, they can defend once again but not a bad idea to try. Hopefully these countries can figure out a solution to control these dangerous groups and stabilize the countries.

In class, we have discussed terrorist groups. Terrorist groups are bunches of people that are creating violence within a country in hopes of instilling fear into the population. The kidnapping in Nigeria is said to have been done by Boko Haram which is a terrorist group. They did this to scare the citizens and possibly get a reaction. They have been in Nigeria for a long time but their last kidnapping this size was in 2014, so they need to reconsider what they have under control.
