Argentina Senate passed and approved the ability for women to have an abortion up to 14 weeks, becoming the fourth country in Latin America to do so. Before in Argentina, you were only allowed to have an abortion in pressing situations or situations of forced conception. The law allows for healthcare providers to refuse to do this if it is not a life or death situation, as longa s they provide additionally information on another healthcare service willing to do the procedure. The hopes is that it can become free for all women. This is taken as a victory in the Argentinean femenist movement.

Abortion is an extremely controversial topic- and one that a lot of people stand so strong in due to their own personal religious beliefs. It is impossible for everyone to agree on every law and every situation- so it is important to find a middle ground as a government. The people pay the government, and the people ask for the things they want. With a left leaning government and a wide spread and supported feminist’s movement in Argentina, this is a victory for the majority in their country. This could potentially set the stage for other “big” countries to do the same, which could lead to more division in places where abortion is extremely controversial.

With the rise of legalized abortion, there is a significant decrease in the availability of adoption. Meaning that people who cannot have children and want to adopt could potentially lose that ability due to the mother of the baby choosing to go another direction. The topic of adoption is on an international realm. The topic of abortion itself is discussed all over the world- and people typically have a one way answer (yes or no/ no in between) and with the rise or influence of the feminist movement and the legalization of abortion, this could become a division between states, religions, and people in general- resulting in conflict.
