At the One Planet Summit, a place of convening to talk about the earth, a coalition led by France, the UK, and Costa Rica decided it is necessary to protect 30% of the earth’s land and ocean to protect us from mass extinction and environmental hazards relating to humanitarian issues. They are coming up with environmentally friendly ideas and sustainable consumption patterns through this. They believe this could also create hundreds of thousands of jobs along with saving jobs related to agriculture. I believe this is a step in the right direction even if someone does not believe in climate change, because they are also attempting to clean up the environment like air pollution, which benefits humans naturally. The fact that an international coalition among countries like South America, Europe, and Africa shows that diplomatic relations in the past have made this kind of agreement easier. One of my concerns is the way they are going to achieve this sustainability through innovative environmentally friendly means. After delving into this matter more, I discovered that many of the countries are not on track to fulfilling their part of the Paris Agreement, which I believe was the basis of this IGO.
