Mexico is attempting to use their free trade agreement with the United States to allow illegal immigrant workers in the US to get the COVID-19 vaccine. The issue at hand is that illegals working at jobs like the meat packing industry, who is famously known for housing illegal workers, are either coming back to Mexico or just staying in the US as workers. Mexico argues it is the right of the workers to be protected, while the an official in the US said otherwise. They released a statement saying that citizenship doesn’t matter, but the situation is still up in arms. I believe if Mexico knows about illegals illegally coming into the United States and working, there is a problem. Him trying to say that US workers should help the immigrant via union strikes is backwards towards what our country strives for, but then again, I don’t even know what world i’m living in anymore. Mexico thinks they will be able to protest if a violation is found, and they are right to do so, but I don’t understand why allies like these the US and Mexico even need to have these mini battles between each other. The Mexican government is trying to deal with state affairs in another country and this matter probably hasn’t reached anyone of real political influence in the US.
