The Argentina senate passed an approved bill to have an abortion up to 14 weeks, which is among one of the few countries in Latin America to do so. Beforehand, forced conception and emergencies were the only reasons for abortion. Healthcare providers can refuse if not an emergency, only if another healthcare servicer says they will do it. In the long run all women should have a choice and it is a step in the right direction for feminism. Since abortion is a controversial and sensitive topic, a lot of people have strong differing stances which makes it hard to agree on a specific idea, which is why the government is needed to resolve the issue, right or wrong. Since Argentina has a left-wing government like many others in Latin America, this was a major victory for the feminist movement in Argentina. This step could cause other countries around them to do the same because of the support that was gotten. Abortion is something that is talked about all around the world and doesn’t always get the representation it needs. In human geo we learned in many LDCs with high birthrates, they are starting to get the help they need with birth control and women empowerment, but abortion is still a controversial topic that is left to the government to decide, usually with a straight yes or no answer and no in between. Since Argentina has a strong catholic presence it was easy to do in Argentina, but other countries will struggle to get the representation the deserve.
