8 people were killed at day spas located in and around Atlanta, Georgia. Out of the 8 people killed, 6 were women of Asian descent, with the last two being a white man and a white woman. The bloodshed began at around 5 p.m on Tuesday when four people were killed and another was wounded in a shooting at Young’s Asian Massage in Cherokee County. The man suspected of committing these actions is Robert Aaron Long. Among the 4 killed in this attack were two women of Asian descent alongside 1 white male and 1 white female. Shortly before 6 p.m at Gold Spa beauty salon, three more women were found shot dead. Across the street at a aromatherapy spa, another women was found dead from gunshot. all 4 of these women were of Asian descent.
This attack coming right after president Joe Biden’s remarks about a surge in hate crimes and discrimination against Asian-Americans. many civil rights groups suggest this large surge in racism and violence towards Asian Americans is a direct result of former president Trump. During his presidency, Trump referred to the coronavirus as the “chinese virus” many times, possibly giving people a blame/hatred on the chinese, asian community. America is dealing with all kinds of problems right now. Racial injustice towards many different ethnicities, and this is just another blow to their country. Civilians all around the country are demanding justice along with stricter gun laws to be put in place. America struggling with all the racial equality issues will have to find a way to put and end to it so that their country doesn’t divide and tear itself apart.
With America as the top dog in regards to international power, wealth, military, etc, it’s hard for them to maintain that title especially with these small issues going on constantly in the country. Although these are small issues, they grow and spread and that is the dangerous factor about them, because when they constantly happen with no resolution like this, they can take even a very strong country like america and tear it apart. Other countries like China and Russia are constantly trying to get in the little cracks as well, so with these issues happening around America that turn the people against each other and against the government, it becomes difficult to keep everything together. They are going to need to find a resolution to these continuing events of terror, or else the world could see a new top dog.
