Recently U.N atomic watchdog Rafael Grossi stated that under president-elect Joe Biden, the Iran Nuclear deal would have to be re-assessed, and a new agreement on how Iran can reverse their breaches and move forward would have to be made. Since the agreement was made in 2015, there have been multiple breaches by Iran on the agreements on how much uranium they may have, how much they can enrich it, where they can enrich it, and with what machines they can enrich it. With these countless breaches, officials from France say that they fear these actions made by Iran, and stress the importance that they follow the rules if the nuclear deal is to be revived.

This nuclear deal involves many countries, such as Germany, France, Russia, Tehran, the United States, and Iran. This deal was put into place to prevent Iran from creating nuclear weapons. In return for their compliance, the US lifted many nuclear sanctions that were placed on Iran. Since Iran has not been following rules, it’s likely there will be new agreements made in the revivement of the deal under Joe Biden. I think it’s important that new agreements are made so that countries that are a part of this deal know that Iran is going to stick to their side of it. This deal reduces the risk of Iran developing nuclear weapons by a lot, and that’s extremely important to global safety, considering without nuclear weapons there is no means to start a nuclear war. This deal helps keep global peace, and I think it’s important it is revived and followed by all parties.

This deal is easy to view from a liberal perspective, because it’s based on reciprocity. When the deal was made, the agreement was that if Iran promised to decrease their amounts of enriched uranium in their country, then the US would lift nuclear sanctions that had previously been placed. This is a clear example of reciprocity because Iran is doing something that benefits the US in return for something that benefits them, and the US is doing something that benefits Iran in return for something that benefits them. While neither country gets to stick with their original plan, they’re still able to reach a compromise.
