Mali’s current ruling junta has now declared their withdrawal of between400 to 6– troops from a regional security force. The security force composed of soldiers from west African states Niger, Mauritania, Burkina Faso and Chad is dedicated to protecting their borders and security. This withdrawal comes as some of the West African countries have expressed disapproval of the military coup and their slowness in establishing a democratic government. Mali in turn has not exactly reacted well to the countries disapproval with a government spokesperson saying “The opposition of some G5 Sahel states to Mali’s presidency is linked to the maneuvers of an extra-regional state desperately aiming to isolate Mali,”

mali is pretty obviously not too keen on giving power back to its people and at the very least don’t plan on creating a ¨democracy¨ yet and want power. this removal of troops from the g5 is pretty big because the force itself showed solidarity between west african countries and its armies which in africa is quite rare to say the least but their withdrawal of troops over legitimate criticism about their government when they themselves 2 years ago said that by this time democracy should be put in place is not a good sign. I’m nowhere near enough educated on contemporary african relations between its governments so say there will be any violent conflict or the like but i do know this won’t make them any new friends in the west ( as in west africa). i doubt this will be resolved any time soon because if history has taught us one things is that military coup imposed governments are not exactly the most liberation politically after the more personal liberating is done

I think this relates to alliances and which countries only stay in them as long as they get something from them. In terms of this one, Mali wanted validation. They wanted their government to be recognized as credible and valid but when called into question they decided they no longer very much cared about the other countries’ security. i believe that for mail to rejoin it would likely want their government recognized possibly as a democracy since we all know how much words mean in politics.this also relates to how states form alliances with states like them as before mali and all these other countries were fine but when mali overthrew its government and installed junta its allies were not exalt elated over it now.
