The Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan (IEA) recently released a statement regarding Israel’s attack on Gaza. The IEA has declared its complete support and backing of the people of Palestine. The government has deemed Israel’s actions as forced displacement and has declared it a war crime. This was followed by a statement that the situation is reflective of the failure existing in international order. IEA’s Foreign Ministry Spokesperson Abdul Qahar Balkhi wrote, “Forced displacement efforts of more than 1.2 million Palestinians from northern Gaza Strip & the planned annexation of Palestinian territories amounts to war crimes, & the ineffective positions taken by world bodies showed unprecedented failure of the current international order.” Afghanistan furthered its support for Palestine by calling on the rest of the Islamic world to take action and assist the Palestinians. The Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC) was mentioned, as the IEA wants the situation addressed as soon as possible.

These statements display a clear sense of urgency for the ensuing of diplomatic matters by the IEA. Balkhi expressed a despise for Israel’s actions and saw them as the oppressors and side at fault. By terming the Israeli actions as war crimes, the IEA is attempting to place all fault upon the Zionists, who combat their Islamic state. Forced displacement and a schemed annexation of Palestinian territories formulate what the IEA believes are war crimes. There is obvious fear in the region, as displayed by these statements. The call for the OIC’s involvement conveys Afghanistan’s firm stance on the need to prevent the Israelis from continuing their aggression. Had international order been better put in place previously, these actions in Gaza would have been avoided through the eyes of the IEA.

At a more individual level, Balkhi’s Islamic values and beliefs have brought out his outright support for Palestine, leading to this urgent call to action. At a state level, the entire IEA and its government revolve around Islam and notoriously do not stand idle to conflict. This aggression has led them to release this statement and speak on Israel with a clear distaste and want for resolution. Expanding to the regional level, it is evident that this reaction was only due to the conflict that was sparked in the first place. Palestine’s sneak attack and Israel’s response have caused regional panic, leading neighboring territories to determine the best way to calm the situation at hand. Looking at this from an international lens, Afghanistan understands the support Israel has the potential to receive around the world and wants to establish a resolution before the situation turns south for Palestine and the Islamic world.
