Recently Pakistan has decided that they will no longer tolerate illegal immigrants in their country. This has led to hundreds of thousands of Afghans being forced back to Afghanistan. This is an issue because many of those who left Afghanistan for Pakistan were looking for a haven. This is because when the Taliban took over Afghanistan the people no longer felt safe and left because of this new lack of safety. This new extraction of the Afghani people in Pakistan will also affect the United States. Because the United States was trying to help the Afghanistan refugees and stated that once they lived in a country that was not Afghanistan for as long as it took for them to be processed they could then become a citizen of the United States. So the United States along with different humanitarian groups is very against Pakistani decision making. While the Taliban is claiming to protect the Afghan people when they come back. I think this could be somewhat compared to the border crisis within the United States. Especially if the reason Pakistan is deporting all of the illegal African citizens is due to the behavior of a select few who they think are worsening their country. However, the humanitarian side of me thinks that it is cruel to send someone who is feeling a dangerous situation back to that situation. In the article, there was never a clear mention of why the migration crackdown started in the first place. Overall I just think that it is a very sucky situation for all sides. But, part of me can’t help but wonder if the Pakistani government is working with the Talbain so that the Taliban can get back their citizens and Pakistan does not have to carry the burden of undocumented immigrants.
This can be related to how countries show their power. In this case, Pakistan is choosing to use dominance to get refugees out of their country. They do this by force and try to show the rest of their own country as well as the world what happens when illegal immigrants try to escape there. This is also the two governments, Pakistan and the Taliban, a way of showing their power. Just in this case instead of showing their power to other countries, I think this move was more to show the government’s power they have over their people if they chose to disobey.
