Summary: As nuclear capabilities rise world wide, India has been sure to stay in the race especially with its nearby competitor China rising to influence. India has developed and first flight tested a home-grown missile with multiple independently targetable reentry vehicle (MIRV) technology, this project has been in progress since 1983 and has been growing for decades. This missile is able to fire multiple warheads to different targets from the same firing. It has a large range at 5,000 km making it India’s only intercontinental ballistic missile that is long range. This missile has bulked India’s offense and defense making leaders of the country proud of their accomplishment.

Analysis: This Bulking of missiles has been an issue consistently growing as America no-longer holds a unipolar power position. India, a normally non aggressive country, joins the list of countries defending themselves against china; the question is asked how much control does any one country have? With the list of countries having nuclear weapons being on the rise the race for smaller countries to obtain these weapons has begun. It also begs the question what will happen if the nuclear owning country, Russia, collapses? The race to obtain the weapons will cause numerous conflicts across the region and hold the potential of China gaining more nuclear power.

Connection to Class: The bulking of military power has been a topic we have discussed numerous times in class recently. This has been something we have seen happen in the past but now has a record number of countries looking to build a competitive weapon force that involves nuclear weapons. This is happening because of the multi-polar system the world is possibly entering which is also something we have mentioned in class. This has been a cause of stress for many countries as it is putting pressure on surrounding countries to bulk up their military as well.
