A joint report headed by NGOs Stop the Traffik Kenya and Freedom Collaborative identified new smuggling routes and causes of human trafficking coming into and out of the state. 17 new routes were discovered among countries bordering Kenya with the cause being corrupt law enforcement and immigration departments providing fake documents for the victims. Public transport, private vehicles, and local and international flights are among ways victims are transported. Victims are found between poverty stricken areas and young girls looking for employment. The data found in the report will further help state actors challenge human trafficking networks and safeguard future victims from attacks.

I don’t have to be told that Kenya is among the worst human trafficking centers of the world, because i’m not living under a rock. This atrocity is on a global scale and every country should be cracking down on it. I can’t even fathom how victims are transported from Finland to Ethiopia to Kenya without being sniffed out. This is a failure on a global and interstate level and someone needs to be held responsible. On the other hand Kenya is doing a good job on a domestic level of identifying areas of interest relating to human trafficking. Their next step should be to hold the corrupt politicians and law enforcement accountable for the crimes that are being committed knowingly in their country. It is also good that Kenya is working with NGOs that work on a global level for increased info like Freedom Collaborative. The author “Judie Kaberia is a fellow of the Resilience Fund of the Global Initiative against Transnational Organized Crime,” which in itself shows that Kenya is trying to make a domestic impact against a global terror organization with no signs of giving up.
