Africa has gone through an onslaught of Covid-19 cases since the beginning of this pandemic. Just recently, Africa has reached 93,541,467 Covid vaccinations. Almost 67% of the vaccinations were given by the United States to aid Africa. Africa has unfortunately had 212,239 deaths from COVID-19 alone and 8,334,554 cases. In comparison to the United States with 704,000 deaths. Africa has almost 5 times more people in their entire continent and has three times less deaths than the United States. The most affected areas in Africa include South Africa with two million cases, Morocco with 900,000 cases, and Tunisia with 900,000 cases.
Africa, in comparison to the United States, was nowhere nearly as much affected by the pandemic. As seen in the evidence above. Africa has done an amazing job at suppressing Covid-19. While plenty of cases probably went unnoticed, Africa’s success as a continent with Covid should not go unnoticed. It may be because of their early restrictions throughout the continent or the USA helping by giving them vaccinations.
This relates to class because of the collective goods problem. All of the world is going through the Covid-19 pandemic. The United States helping Africa get vaccines mutually helped both of them. The United States is helping suppress the pandemic which would help them in the long run suppress the probability of the disease spreading to their country. It also helps Africa because it helps suppress their own complications with the Covid-19 virus. This is an example of Reciprocity because it is rewarding behavior that contributes to the group, in this case being the world.
