Freedom Fund is an organization that was made to help stop the global modern slavery that is present. They identify and invest in the most effective frontline efforts to eradicate modern slavery in the countries and sectors where it is most prevalent. The most recent example of this, would be their investment of one million dollars in East African NGOs like Ethiopia, Kenya, and Uganda. The NGOs are the Survivor Leadership Fund, they help assist people that lived through exploitation – including human trafficking, forced labour, bonded labour or forced marriage.
East Africa is one of the most horrific sites of modern slavery. The attempts that are being made by the newly organized Survivor Leadership Funds are greatly helping the efforts in stopping the issue. So, Freedom fund’s donation to this NGO was greatly appropriate because Freedom Fund was created to identify and invest in the most effective frontline efforts to end slavery. Based on my last regional report the Humanitarian crisis that is taking place in Ethiopia seems to be only getting worse. Hopefully more organizations will see what is truly happening in Eastern Africa and help them in any way possible.
This relates to class because of the relationship that these two NGOs have. They have a very mutual relationship. They both are helping end global modern slavery. This also relates to class because the relationship in question is between two NGOs. The Survivor Leadership Fund in particular goes directly against Ethiopia’s government because they are trying to make an end to slavery. The end to slavery around the world, is very slowly coming to an end through investments like these.
